OPINION: A STATESMAN SPOKE TODAY
When I was a child, I thought like a child. At the age of thirteen, WW2 had just ended, and although I was entering adolescence, I was convinced I was a solid Communist. Then I grew up. My growth started during the McCarthy hearings on un-American Activities. Having prior schooling on the nuances of Communist cell-building and civil subversion by a New York City bookworm whose ambition, soon after reaching 21, was to become a card-carrying Communist Party member, I listened and watched with interest those TV shows. No history public school teacher, indeed, no teacher of mine would touch the political subject in class. Denial of Communist subversion within our government, from President Harry Truman’s administration, down the line, was high entertainment for me. In addition, you may consider I was a savvy New York City kid on this subject. It was not much later when I stumbled over American History; you see, intellectual history was not taught in public school then, as I suspect it is not taught in schools today. The U.S. Constitution is not taught, therefore not understood in America today. The subliminal fear of it probably has to do with “Separation of Church and State,” which happens to be another subject not understood in academia, or anywhere else in Congress. However, today I witnessed a statesman saying words not heard since I was first introduced to the eloquent articulation of Ambassador Alan Keyes. Today I saw and heard Mitt Romney speak. (Incidentally, I am not of the Mormon Church)
I am familiar with many celebrated speakers, since first I listened and understood the stature of men like Franklyn D Roosevelt; I listened with close attention from other living men such as Winston Churchill, Hubert H. Humphrey, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. Too many years passed till I heard Ronald Reagan and Alan Keyes reiterate the essence of those founding fathers that helped to fashion this unique nation. Today I heard Mitt Romney speak. I, like those preconditioned to hear or switch-off the parroting of political rhetoric lately, was transfixed by the clarity and intellectual message from a politician that gave a statesman’s lesson to America, and to every elected official that has taken an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States of America.
Every pundit imagined Romney would parallel JFK’s denial of Catholic Papal control. Many were salivating to decoy the debates into a theocratic donnybrook. Mitt Romney did touch on and promised his independent performance, should he become the President, however he went beyond this point to give a lesson , not only to an illiterate media, void of the Constitutional essence of our nation, but to the international community. He reminded us that Europe was in moral decline as he observed churches there, are primarily architectural tourist attractions, and not havens for spiritual guidance. He taught that we as a nation conceived by, endowed God given liberty, were in denial and have wandered into confusion; a confusion that directly destroys the center of our civil liberty and responsible family cohesion. His words reminded me of President George Washington’s farewell address and other founders of this nation that were morally and spiritually guided; and inspired to do great things no other country had done.
There will be criticism from many corners from those wishing to propagate this misinterpreted phrase; “Separation of Church and State,” (not written in the Constitution) however I suspect they did not completely listen too or at least did not understand Mitt Romney’s speech. In addition, it will prove they did not read or understand the U. S. Constitution, nor did they precede its content by first understanding The Declaration of Independence as well.
Preconceived notions and fragmental scrapings from ill-conceived news stories is the regurgitation, the Mainstream media tries to sell. Immersion in this pap has mutated the Fourth Estate, exclusively, into becoming the Entertainment industry. This is now a national abomination, that has become the “Voice of America,” to educate our youth with civil illiteracy and bring contempt from our domestic and national enemies.
Until another American citizen reminds us of our God given right to responsible liberty, Mitt Romney’s speech will remain the clearest profile of American statesmanship, so far, in this twenty-first century. I therefore endorse both Mitt Romney and Alan Keyes, leading the few men and women that understand the Constitution they took an oath to protect, for heralding that document and the source of its—endowment, for election to our highest office.
